One of the duties of a librarian is to be prepared for natural disasters. This includes taking note of damages to collections and the building. After a natural disaster, library services like shelter, internet connection, and information access.
An example of this is happening with the local libraries after Hurricane Sandy. Local public libraries took people in for shelter. Patrons also came in to charge their devices and use the computers. The public libraries shared information, made announcements about the natural disaster, and updated the public about their status and policies. The libraries being on social media helped in alerting the public of the shelter and services available.
